Obama says of the EduJobs bill that “the money will only go toward saving the jobs of teachers and other essential professionals.” Yet:
1) The Daily Caller reports that D.C. will send millions of dollars to states who’s schools are already fully staffed:
Since the new bill provides funds based on state population and the number of children in school, these states will receive funds even if their budgets are in the black.
…
In Alaska for instance, school districts made hiring decisions for teachers last May, and apportioned the children in each class based upon those numbers. Although the teaching jobs are filled, the state will still receive $24 million under the bill, and a state official asserted that it probably would not go to adding new teachers.
Via Hot Air:
The Department of Education helpfully suggests that the funds could go to other jobs. For instance, schools with enough teachers could hire “on-campus therapists” to soak up the cash. Isn’t it great that we borrowed tons of cash on top of the massive deficits we already have to save or create jobs for on-campus therapists?
2) Another example of growing government at the expense of adding burdens on small businesses and others in the private sector. Ace reminds that this largess is ONLY for government employees:
Are people noticing the $26 billion fresh bailout Obama proposed only goes to state employees? The bill is only there to keep the Democratic Party stimulated — to prevent angry, base-tearing fights as Democratic pols are finally forced to suggest cuts to government employees’ pay.
3) Jack M further highlights the real benefit to those enacting this bill on Ace of Spades HQ (at the link above as well as here):
You are a little bit wrong about the $26 billion bailout fund…
in that you don’t articulate just how insidious this is. It’s
basically a ploy to have the American taxpayers fill up campaign
coffers for Dems.$10 billion of this money goes to the unions. Before the money gets to
the “teachers” the unions skim off their share of mandatory
“contributions”.The money skimmed by the unions goes directly into the union political
advocacy/footsoldier network to get out votes for Dems.
